When you first take offense
With what I do
Or say,
You set batter boards
And run string between
You and me...
A fence is on the way.
When you first make offense
In what you do
Or say,
You dig the holes
And set the posts dividing
Me and you...
A fence is in the way.
And when we first break offense,
What we've done
Or said,
We tear away the panels
And pull the nails poking
At us...
No more a fence, only
None taken ahead.
