An old friend said as she
lay dying,
"I have lived my life to
the full:
I met many
people,
traveled many places,
done many good things,
said many memorable words,
accumulated so many treasures,
and did my best to live a godly life,
but now I see...reality.
While I sit on a ledge of
this high ridge:
ready to leave this
world,
headed
not into the dark abyss
but far up into the lighted heavens,
Now that all has been said
and done,
and so many have
come and gone,
I see
no one and no thing still with me,
Only Jesus...sitting at
my side.
Why did I not know this before?
Why did no one tell me?
Doesn't everyone know?
Like the first disciples,
falling in right
behind His heels,
striving
so to follow Him step by step,
Going everywhere He led,
doing whatever He
said,
whenever
He said to, and
however He showed them,
We too are to keep our eyes,
hearts, and minds
just on Him,
like
nothing else matters but to
love Him with our all, and love all
others, all along the way.
This life on this planet
at this time
is meant only to
help us pare away
all that
does not matter, revealing
the truth...a reality not so easily seen...
Jesus is all that matters."
