Of the Tree of Knowledge
of Good and
Evil,
We were told to not eat,
because then
we would surely
die.
There's a better tree.
Of the foot of Mount Sinai
as the shofar
blasts,
We were told to not touch,
because then
we would be put
to death.
There's a better mountain.
Of entering the Holy Place
before the
Mercy Seat,
We were told to not enter,
because then
we would indeed
perish.
There's a better place.
Of continuing in wickedness
as so often
warned,
We were told to not sin,
because then
we would cease
to be.
There's a better way.
Of not repenting of our sin,
turning forever
away,
We were told if we did not,
before the
last of our breaths,
we'd succumb.
There's a better truth.
Of not believing in Him Chosen,
the only way
to Heaven,
We were told, to believe
or
otherwise remain
from God so
separated.
There's a better life.
We chose in the beginning
to throw away the
very best,
settling for what was broken,
But by the love of God alone,
in His great
grace and mercy,
set before us has always been
the promise of something better.
Now choose while you may,
though, not
so much what is better,
but Who.
