House of Bread*

Eternal hands from above
through the ancients' fingers in love,
reaching past all ages and treasure,
mixed well the tripled measure
of wheat flour so fine
one batch of dough so divine.

Come to the house of bread
a once for all meal is waiting there
an eternal table set for you,
come to the house of bread
a living loaf waits there still
a forever supper left for me too.

A recipe borne by winged host
to aged palms set to make the most,
beyond all time and trophy,
kneaded smooth and shaped so lordly
a loaf for all men to atone
and set to bake on heated stone.

Come to the house of bread
a once for all meal is waiting there
an eternal table set for you,
come to the house of bread
a living loaf waits there still
a forever supper left for me too.

A heavenly feast to earth was sent
carried by hearts after His own so lent,
across all eras and said glories,
brought forth the unleavened story of all stories
when God became the Bread of Life
and took away our hunger and our strife.

Come to the house of bread
a once for all meal is waiting there
an eternal table set for you,
come to the house of bread
a living loaf waits there still
a forever supper left for me too.
