Where as,
looking behind
in a rear-view mirror,
from time to time,
is a good thing to do,
a safe habit in driving,
looking behind
at the barely bubbles
popping quite happily, over
having been part of the wave
that knocked you down,
is not a good thing to do,
especially when the next
is already rising up
to topple you too.
The prudent, if not outright
divine, thing
to do
is to forget what is behind,
and, calling on the Spirit within,
brace for the crash
so as to, this time around,
stand your ground in the sand.
There is nothing to gain,
from the horizontal,
watching the foamy wash
pool around your upended heels.
Gain is only made
from the vertical,
when faced with temptation
and relying on the power
of Christ's victory,
sin finds no place to splash
to leave its stain on us.
We only become more like
Jesus
when with Him
we stand,
keeping our eyes on the prize,
so sin stains only sand.
Philippians 3:13 - "Forgetting
what is behind..."
*Sanctification is the process
by which the Holy
Spirit/the Spirit of Christ
living in the saved
believer helps him/her become
less and less sin-
ful and more and more like
Jesus...one sinful
wave at a time. In the process,
besides allowing
God to do His transforming
work of our broken
hearts and broken ways,
when we fall under the
weight of sin, every time
we fall, for all the
rest of our lives until
He's done with us, when
we finally reach glory,
we must re-focus on pos-
sible sin ahead, get up
from the ground, stand
in His power, and resist
the pull of sin as
often as needed. Nothing's
to be gained by look-
ing back upon our sins,
but everything to gain
by looking ahead to each
new opportunity to re-
sist sin and gain ground
on our upward calling. |
