Proud Hedgehog Cactus,¹
Who nature does defy
By growing from a rock.
Lovely Hedgehog Cactus,
Whose crimson petals
Stay open all the night.
Brave Hedgehog Cactus,
Whose long spiky quills
Like swords do defend.
Scarlet Hedgehog Cactus,
Is it on your hardy roots
Or the rock you so depend?
Grateful Hedgehog Cactus,
Are not the rock's cracks
Upon which you stand?
Humble Hedgehog Cactus,
It is because of the rock
You are established at all.
