Lost is the Wonder

We are thankful for the water
     in the glass, the promise is
          our thirst will very soon
               be quenched.

But when we see the water
     in the glass, we often see it
          half empty or half full,
               and wonder why?

Or maybe it is the glass itself,
     maybe it is far too large,
          or even, God forbid,
               it is too small?

Sadly, though, lost is the wonder,
     missed is the delight in knowing
          who is pouring the water
               into our glass.
