Raising his horn to the heavens
the shofar's blast
announces
to this dark world:
the time of the royal signet's about to pass.

Never!
screams the shadows deep
Not ever!
grimy fists clenched tight.

"I'm about to take you off!"
quoth the King
warning
the dead in the den without rings:
time for the lion's dinner.

Never-never!
assures the beyond dead
it's only a dream!
with a bony thumbs up.

"I chose you, not you me!"
sayeth the Lord
reminding
those without ears to hear:
the time for eternity's about to shine.

Nevermore!
cries every black heart
Never again!
and one-finger salutes.

"Nevertheless!"
thunders the Almighty
condemning
all swimmers in the lake:
the heat's about to soar.

"And neverthemore!"
bangs God's gavel
echoing
for those lost in the valley of sin:
there's no fat lady's song to signal the...
