Moses led unconsecrated
Israel to the foot of Sinai,
A holy people they would
become if only
God's word they would forever
obey.
And when God finished speaking,
So His people would know
purity sure,
Moses received the tablets
of testimony
Written by the finger of
God.
The Pharisees brought a woman
caught in the act of adultery,
A sin for which the law
said she must die,
Daring Jesus to take a stand.
And when Jesus finished teaching,
So they would remember what
is pure,
The Pharisees received decrees
in dirt
Written by the finger of
God.
Before Moses could present
God's new law of the land,
His children worshipped
a god of their making,
And the tablets he did break.
Knowing Moses so begged of
God,
That beyond great was their
heart sin,
New stone tablets now bore
the law
Written again by the finger
of God.
When the Pharisees kept nagging,
what would you do?
Jesus said, he among you
who is pure
Throw hard the first stone.
And then they remembered,
one by one,
Oldest to youngest, the
laws of old,
Seeing it laid out there
for all to see
Written again by the finger
of God.
