In this life we live,
If left to our own devices,
We learn so well...
to clench our fists,
to steel our spines,
to even thicken
the skin of our necks;
And do we ever travel...
in circles, round and round,
in old familiar loops,
on paths well worn,
the same ol' tracks.
In this way we never leave
where we are,
And never arrive
where we want to be.
If we keep our heads down,
Moving through each day
the same,
And never set our spirit
free,
We can never know
the Promised Land,
the life Christ Jesus
meant for us to see.
