My mouth, then my nose
Sink below the water's surface,
The weight of something's
pulling me
down,
down,
down.
I yell out loud, but without
sound,
My arms wave goodbye on
their own,
I kick my feet at whatever's
dragging me
down,
down,
down.
I hold my breath, could be
my last,
I yearn for air, but not
one seems left,
I sense danger, dread on
dread follows me
down,
down,
down.
I gasp for one blast of now
rare air,
But water rushes into my
yawning mouth,
Down my throat, and into
my lungs collapsing
down,
down,
down.
My body vertical, head tipped
back,
My arms float up from my
aching sides
As deeper in my darkening
thoughts I sink
down,
down,
down.
At the mercy of something
irresistible,
Tranquil shafts of sunlight
dim all around,
Waters dark and darker grow,
I simply surrender
down,
down,
down.
And then I'm back, safe and
sound,
I can breathe free, but
better than before,
No more will my sin in this
life now anchor me
down,
down,
down.
I wanted in You to drown,
to trade
For the fair air of my All
Mighty God, and
To send to the depths my
every sin nowhere but
down,
down,
down.
