Vitis!*

!eternity
to vitis
a toast
here's to the fruit of the vine.
so pretty to see
for the here and now
content to flower,
and the sterile
wine for the king's table
with an eye to forever
abiding in the vine
some are fertile,
but not all bear fruit
flowers too
then the branches;
first the vine
and the growing season begins
deep and wide,
roots shoot
moist and warm is best
terra firma,
in the beginning

John 15:1-17

*Vitis is a bit different. You can
read it from the top down as with
most poems, but this poem was written literally from the "ground up."  Try it and see.
