From worldly eyes
it may seem
evil can snatch away
whenever it wants
even gifts of God.
The jeering throng
saw what they cried out
for,
Jesus crucified.
They saw the nails
driven through His wrists
and overlapping feet.
With glee they saw Him
breathe His last.
And with blind eyes,
beating their breasts in
victory,
they returned home
convinced of their power
over life.
The world did not take
Jesus' life.
As a gift of God,
even before it began its
death spin,
even for those who cried
"Crucify!",
He gave His life in love,
willingly.*
