His Story

I

Moses was leading his sheep

when he saw a flame of fire

in the midst of a bush,

But it was not being consumed.

“That bush is on fire!

But it is not burning up?”

When God saw Moses turn

to look, He called out:

Moses, Moses!

And Moses said, Here am I.

“Who is it that speaks from

Fire that leaves no ash?”

Do not come any closer,

and remove your shoes,

for this ground is holy.

I Am the God of your fathers!

I AM WHO I AM.

II

With hyssop in blood dipped,

painted were all door posts

and the lintels too,

Israel’s lambs without spot.

“Sacrifice at the dark of twilight

Before death’s angel passes.”

Egyptian cries filled the night

when God’s first born

were passed over.

Both man and beast did die.

“Be ready before daybreak,

The Promised Land awaits.”

Favor was given to Israel

and their journey began

the Lord leading out,

Six hundred thousand on foot.

THIS IS MY NIGHT.

III

On Eagles’ wings I bore you,

from captivity I released you,

now up Sinai I call you,

Of covenant we must speak.

“If you obey my voice,

you will be more than treasure.”

Moses, My friend, it is time

for Israel to meet Me.

Gather My children.

Prepare them to meet their Maker.

“On the third day, thunder

Pealed down from on high.”

With a trumpet blast,

Louder, and louder still,

And with mouths agape,

Israel stood just outside the smoke.

I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD.

IV

Etched on the hard of lapis lazuli

pavement beneath His feet,

God gave Moses for all

The reason for the cross of Christ.

“I am the Lord your God...

Have no other gods before Me.

Make no graven image...

Take not My name in vain.

Remember the holy Sabbath...

Honor your father and mother.

Do not murder...

Do not adulter.

Do not steal...

Do not deceive.

And covet not

What your neighbor’s got.”

And though the fear of God

is the beginning of wisdom,

be not afraid of dying, for

You will not hang upon a cross.

YOU ARE MY CHOSEN.

V

Moses and others did go up

and for themselves saw

like a Son of Man, and Him

Standing there at heaven’s throne.

“All the words God said,

We will most certainly do.”

The glory of God Almighty

rested in the clouds on Sinai,

and Moses went in the midst,

A long forty days and forty nights.

“Israel has turned aside, and

In My place worship a golden calf.”

Tablets in hand, the Testimony,

the sole work of God,

Moses sought to save

His people from their sinful sin.

I MEAN WHAT I SAY.

VI

I will be gracious

I will have compassion

I will have both as I will

Forever, I AM still your creator.

“This cloud covers my glory,

So that you will live.”

My presence will go with

and I will give you rest,

follow My cloud by day

Or pillar of fire by night, I AM.

“I am the the God of rescue,

And the God who provides.”

Manna rained from Heaven

quail gathered each evening

water from rocks sprang,

I even told Moses how it all began.

YOU ARE MY PEOPLE.

VII

God talked, Moses transcribed,

in the beginning, God said

“Let there be light!”

And His Story thus began.
