Herbs in My Hands
These words poured out the other day after I picked herbs
from my modest backyard garden....
Picking herbs
from my garden
flourishing --
so richly green,
growing upward
reaching for the sun
now laced
between my fingers.
I notice their
sweet fragrance
captured in the breeze
then on my hands
Cilantro
Basil
Mint
Rosemary
Lavender
Oregano
such a statement
you make
so fresh,
so strong,
so lasting.
As I touch
both hands to my face
a slight fragrance
still there
fills my senses,
and I think
about my life
my ways,
my thoughts,
my words…
May I, too,
be like
the herbs
in my hands,
breathing out
a sweet
fragrance --
fresh,
strong,
and
lasting.
